American blues-rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 1974. Long-running lineup historically centered on Kim Wilson (vocals/harmonica) and Jimmie Vaughan (guitar, brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan, until 1989). The Thunderbirds served as the Antone's nightclub house band during their early years, backing visiting blues legends.
Released 11 studio albums between The Fabulous Thunderbirds (1979) and Strong Like That (2016). Commercial peak: Tuff Enuff (1986, featuring the title-track hit). Kim Wilson has been the only constant member since the late 1980s.
