The Brothers Johnson

0 concerts · 1 record

American funk/disco duo of brothers George Johnson (guitar/vocals, b. 1953) and Louis Johnson (bass/vocals, 1955-2015). Discovered by Quincy Jones (who first hired them as session musicians on his solo albums), who produced all of their commercial-peak releases.

Released six studio albums between Look Out for #1 (1976) and Out of Control (1984). Commercial peak: Right on Time (1977, featuring "Strawberry Letter 23") and Blam!! (1978). Louis Johnson's slap-bass technique was foundational; he played the bass on Michael Jackson's Thriller (1982) and Off the Wall (1979). Louis Johnson died in 2015.
