American Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (guitar, died 1971) and Gregg Allman (vocals/keyboards, died 2017). Original lineup also included Dickey Betts (guitar, died 2024), Berry Oakley (bass, died 1972), Butch Trucks (drums, died 2017), and Jaimoe (drums).
Twelve studio albums between The Allman Brothers Band (1969) and Hittin' the Note (2003). Critical peak: At Fillmore East (1971), one of the best-selling live albums of all time. Two of the original six members — Duane Allman and Berry Oakley — died in motorcycle accidents in 1971 and 1972 respectively, just three blocks apart from each other. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
