American thrash metal band formed in Berkeley, California in 1983 (originally as Legacy). Long-running lineup centered on Eric Peterson (guitar) and Chuck Billy (vocals, since 1986, replacing Steve Souza). Considered a foundational "second tier" thrash band — emerging slightly after the "Big Four" but with comparable influence on the genre.
Thirteen studio albums starting with The Legacy (1987). Best-known releases include The New Order (1988), Practice What You Preach (1989), and The Gathering (1999). Chuck Billy was diagnosed with germ cell cancer in 2001; he beat it and the band has continued. Released Titans of Creation (2020) and Para Bellum (2025).
