American rock guitarist and vocalist born December 13, 1948, in Redford, Michigan. First gained prominence as guitarist for the Amboy Dukes (1965-1975) before launching a solo career.

Eleven solo studio albums starting with the self-titled 1975 debut. Commercial peak: Free-for-All (1976), Cat Scratch Fever (1977), and the live Double Live Gonzo! (1978). Also fronted the supergroup Damn Yankees (1989-1996, with Tommy Shaw of Styx and Jack Blades of Night Ranger). Known for outspoken political commentary and a high-profile hunting/firearms advocacy career.
