American rock band formed in San Diego in 1989. Original lineup: Scott Weiland (vocals, 1989-2013, died 2015), Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums). Often associated with the grunge era despite the band's diverse stylistic range across albums.
Seven studio albums total. Their first three — Core (1992), Purple (1994), and Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996) — sold a combined 16 million-plus copies in the US. Weiland was fired in 2013 (replaced by Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, 2013-2015, who died in 2017). Jeff Gutt has fronted the band since 2017.
