English musician born Gordon Sumner on October 2, 1951, in Wallsend, England. First gained prominence as vocalist/bassist of the Police (1977-1986). Launched a successful solo career after the Police disbanded.
Released 15 solo studio albums between The Dream of the Blue Turtles (1985) and The Bridge (2021). Commercial peak: Nothing Like the Sun (1987), The Soul Cages (1991), and Ten Summoner's Tales (1993, featuring "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" and "Fields of Gold"). Seventeen Grammy Awards. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Police in 2003.
