American heavy metal band formed in Phoenix in 1997 by Max Cavalera after his departure from Sepultura. Cavalera is the band's only continuous member; the lineup has rotated frequently around him. Distinguished by the fusion of Brazilian rhythmic traditions, world music, and heavy metal that Cavalera pioneered with Sepultura.
Twelve studio albums starting with the 1998 self-titled debut. Best-known releases include Primitive (2000), Conquer (2008), and Archangel (2015). The band has frequently been described as a continuation of Cavalera's Sepultura work. Cavalera also fronts Cavalera Conspiracy with his brother Iggor.
