American singer-songwriter born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, in Detroit. Founding lead vocalist of the Miracles (1955-1972) and Vice President of Motown Records (1961-1988). Bob Dylan reportedly called him "America's greatest living poet."

Released over 25 solo studio albums between Smokey (1973) and Gasms (2023). Wrote and co-wrote major Motown hits including "My Girl," "The Way You Do the Things You Do," "My Guy," "Get Ready," and dozens more for the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, and the Miracles. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Kennedy Center Honoree in 2006.
