American singer-songwriter born February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri. First gained prominence as a backing vocalist for Michael Jackson's Bad tour (1987-1989) before launching her solo career.

Eleven studio albums starting with Tuesday Night Music Club (1993), which sold over 7 million copies on the strength of "All I Wanna Do" and "Strong Enough." Commercial peak continued through Sheryl Crow (1996), The Globe Sessions (1998), and C'mon, C'mon (2002). Nine Grammy Awards. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023.
