American singer, songwriter, drummer, and percussionist born Sheila Cecilia Escovedo on December 12, 1957, in Oakland, California. Daughter of percussionist Pete Escovedo. Distinguished by her virtuoso percussion work and her long-running collaboration with Prince (1984-1989, 2011-2016).
Released seven studio albums between The Glamorous Life (1984, featuring the title-track hit) and Iconic (2013). Commercial peak: The Glamorous Life and Romance 1600 (1985, featuring "A Love Bizarre" with Prince). Has worked extensively as a session percussionist for artists ranging from Lionel Richie to Beyoncé.
