Canadian singer-songwriter born Eilleen Regina Edwards on August 28, 1965, in Windsor, Ontario; raised in Timmins. Adopted the stage name "Shania" (an Ojibwe word) in 1991. Distinguished by her crossover country-pop sound (largely shaped by producer/then-husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange) and her role in expanding country music's commercial reach in the mid-to-late 1990s.
Released six studio albums between Shania Twain (1993) and Queen of Me (2023). Commercial peak: The Woman in Me (1995), Come On Over (1997, the best-selling album by a female artist in any genre at over 40 million copies worldwide), and Up! (2002). Five Grammy Awards. Suffered Lyme disease-related dysphonia in 2003-2004 that required vocal rehabilitation and surgery.
