German hard rock band formed in Hanover in 1965. Long-running lineup: Klaus Meine (vocals, since 1969), Rudolf Schenker (guitar, since formation), Matthias Jabs (guitar, since 1978), and various rhythm sections.
Nineteen studio albums starting with Lonesome Crow (1972). Commercial peak: Blackout (1982), Love at First Sting (1984, featuring "Rock You Like a Hurricane"), and Crazy World (1990, featuring "Wind of Change" — one of the best-selling singles of all time). The band announced a farewell tour in 2010 but continued recording and performing. Still active.
