American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1999. Long-running lineup centered on Robert Schwartzman (vocals/guitar, brother of actor Jason Schwartzman, son of Talia Shire, nephew of Francis Ford Coppola). Distinguished by their power-pop-meets-classic-rock sound drawing on Big Star, the Cars, and Cheap Trick.
Released five studio albums between Rooney (2003) and Washed Away (2016). Toured with the Strokes during their early-2000s commercial peak. Schwartzman has subsequently pursued film directing including Dreamland (2016).
