American stand-up comedian and actor born Jacob Cohen on November 22, 1921, in Babylon, New York; died October 5, 2004. Defined by his "I get no respect" persona and his characteristic neck-tugging delivery. Founder of Dangerfield's comedy club in New York (1969-2020), which gave early breaks to Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Roseanne Barr, and many others.
Released numerous comedy albums starting with The Loser (1966). Won the 1981 Grammy for Best Comedy Recording for No Respect (1980). Co-starred in the films Caddyshack (1980), Easy Money (1983), Back to School (1986), and Natural Born Killers (1994). Died at age 82 of surgery complications.
