English singer-songwriter (1949-2003). First gained prominence as a member of the Power Station (1985, with members of Duran Duran) before launching a successful solo career. Distinguished by his eclectic style — touching R&B, rock, blues, jazz, and reggae — and his iconic MTV-era visual presentation.

Released 14 studio albums between Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley (1974) and Drive (2003). Commercial peak: Riptide (1985, featuring "Addicted to Love" — the iconic music video featured a band of identically-dressed mannequin-styled women) and Heavy Nova (1988, featuring "Simply Irresistible"). Died of a heart attack in September 2003.
