American bluegrass band led by Ricky Skaggs (b. July 18, 1954, Cordell, Kentucky), the long-running country/bluegrass star who had been a member of Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys and Emmylou Harris's Hot Band before launching his country solo career in the 1980s. Skaggs returned to bluegrass full-time in 1997.
Kentucky Thunder has backed Skaggs on his bluegrass recordings since 1997. Won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album multiple times including Bluegrass Rules! (1997), Soldier of the Cross (1999), History of the Future (2001), and Live at the Charleston Music Hall (2003). Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018.
