Australian-American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and actor born Richard Lewis Springthorpe on August 23, 1949, in Sydney, Australia. Distinguished by his dual careers as a rock musician and as a soap-opera actor (General Hospital, 1981-1983, 2005-present in recurring roles).
Released over 20 studio albums starting with Beginnings (1972). Commercial peak: Working Class Dog (1981, featuring the #1 "Jessie's Girl") and Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet (1982). Won the 1982 Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for "Jessie's Girl." Continues to tour and record.
