American rock band formed in Palm Desert, California in 1996 by guitarist/vocalist Josh Homme (formerly of Kyuss). The band's lineup has rotated frequently around Homme; longtime contributors include Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, 2002-present), Michael Shuman (bass, 2007-present), and Jon Theodore (drums, 2013-present).
Eight studio albums including Rated R (2000), Songs for the Deaf (2002, featuring Dave Grohl on drums), Lullabies to Paralyze (2005), ...Like Clockwork (2013), and Villains (2017). Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Nick Oliveri were notable past members. The band has been a key vehicle for the broader "Desert Sessions" project Homme runs.
