American funk-rock band led by Prince (1958-2016) from 1979 to 1986. The Revolution backing band included Wendy Melvoin (guitar/vocals), Lisa Coleman (keyboards/vocals), Brown Mark (bass), Bobby Z. (drums), and Matt Fink (keyboards) at its classic-era peak.
Released three studio albums under the Prince and the Revolution name: Purple Rain (1984), Around the World in a Day (1985), and Parade (1986). Purple Rain sold over 25 million copies and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for the accompanying film. Prince disbanded the Revolution in 1986; surviving members have toured under the Revolution name since 2012.
