Primus

American rock band formed in El Sobrante, California in 1984 by bassist/vocalist Les Claypool. Classic lineup includes Larry "Ler" LaLonde (guitar) and various drummers — most notably Tim "Herb" Alexander (1989-1996, 2003-2010, 2013-2023) and Brain Mantia (1996-2003, 2010-2013). Distinguished by Claypool's virtuosic bass playing and the band's idiosyncratic, often satirical songwriting.

Nine studio albums starting with Frizzle Fry (1990). Commercial peak: Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991), Pork Soda (1993), and Tales from the Punchbowl (1995). Claypool composed the South Park TV theme (1997). Continuously active in some form since 1984.
