American death/thrash metal band formed in Bay Area, California in 1983. Long-running lineup centered on vocalist/bassist Jeff Becerra. Widely credited as one of the first death metal bands, with their 1985 debut Seven Churches often cited as the genre's foundational album.
Released Seven Churches (1985) and Beyond the Gates (1986) during their original run, then reformed in 2007 (after Becerra was paralyzed from the waist down in a 1989 robbery). Released the comeback Revelations of Oblivion (2019) after a 33-year studio gap. The band continues to record and perform with Becerra fronting from a wheelchair.
