American R&B group formed in Oakland, California in 1969. Original lineup: sisters Ruth (b. 1946), Anita (1948-2022), Bonnie (1950-2020), and June (1953-2006). Bonnie left in 1977 for a solo career; the group continued as a trio. Distinguished by their stylistic versatility across R&B, pop, country, and disco.
Released 14 studio albums between The Pointer Sisters (1973) and Stars (1994). Won the 1974 Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for "Fairytale" — the first African-American group to win a country Grammy.
