American boy band formed in Boston in 1984. Lineup: Donnie Wahlberg, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood. The group was assembled by producer Maurice Starr, who had previously developed the similarly-formatted New Edition.
Seven studio albums between New Kids on the Block (1986) and Still Kids (2024). Commercial peak: Hangin' Tough (1988, including "Please Don't Go Girl," "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," and "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)") and Step by Step (1990). The group dissolved in 1994, reformed in 2008, and has continued to tour. Donnie Wahlberg has pursued an extensive acting career; his brother Mark Wahlberg was briefly a member.
