American singer-songwriter and guitarist born Michael James Ness on April 3, 1962, in Lynn, Massachusetts. Founding member, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter for Social Distortion (1978-present). Distinguished by his country-influenced punk songwriting and his rockabilly-meets-punk-rock visual aesthetic.
Released two solo studio albums: Cheating at Solitaire (1999) and Under the Influences (1999), the latter a covers album. Underwent treatment for tonsil cancer in 2024. Continues to lead Social Distortion.
