American studio group assembled by music executive Michael Viner (1944-2009) in 1972. Best known for the heavily-sampled instrumental "Apache" (1973), whose drum break has been used in hundreds of hip-hop tracks since its rediscovery by DJ Kool Herc and the early Bronx hip-hop DJs of the mid-1970s.
Released two studio albums: Bongo Rock (1973) and The Return of the Incredible Bongo Band (1974). The break from "Apache" is among the most-sampled drum breaks in recorded music history. Drummer Jim Gordon and percussionist King Errisson were the principal players.
