American R&B singer-songwriter born Luther Thomas Ingram on November 30, 1937, in Jackson, Tennessee; died March 19, 2007. Best known for the deep-soul hit "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right" (1972).
Released six studio albums between I've Been Here All the Time (1972) and Let's Steal Away to the Hideaway (1976). "(If Loving You Is Wrong)" topped the R&B charts for four weeks and crossed over to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been covered by Millie Jackson, Barbara Mandrell, Rod Stewart, and many others. Died at age 69 of complications from a long illness.
