Canadian rock band formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1979. Long-running lineup: Mike Reno (vocals), Paul Dean (guitar), Doug Johnson (keyboards), Scott Smith (bass, 1979-2000, died 2000), and Matt Frenette (drums). One of the most commercially successful Canadian acts of the 1980s.

Seven studio albums starting with Loverboy (1980). Commercial peak: Get Lucky (1981, featuring "Working for the Weekend") and Keep It Up (1983). Bassist Scott Smith was lost at sea off the California coast in November 2000; replaced by Spider Sinnaeve. The band has continued touring extensively.
