American blues guitarist and vocalist born Lonnie McIntosh on July 18, 1941, in Aurora, Indiana; died April 21, 2016. Pioneer of the lead-guitar instrumental style; his 1963 recording of "Memphis" (a Chuck Berry cover) is widely cited as one of the first lead-guitar instrumental hits, influencing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton among many others.
Released over a dozen studio albums starting with The Wham of That Memphis Man! (1963). Subsequent peaks: Strike Like Lightning (1985, produced by Stevie Ray Vaughan). Continued to perform until shortly before his death from natural causes at age 74.
