American R&B and doo-wop group formed in Brooklyn in 1957. Lineup historically centered on Jerome Anthony "Little Anthony" Gourdine (vocals, b. January 8, 1941). Distinguished by Gourdine's distinctive high tenor lead.
Released numerous singles starting with "Tears on My Pillow" (1958). Best-known hits include "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop" (1959), "Goin' Out of My Head" (1964), and "Hurt So Bad" (1965). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.
