American singer, songwriter, and rapper born May 26, 1975, in East Orange, New Jersey. Member of the Fugees (1992-1997, occasional reunions). One of the most acclaimed solo debuts in hip-hop history with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998).
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill sold over 19 million copies worldwide and won five Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best New Artist (1999); Hill became the first woman to win five Grammys in a single night. Released only one further full-length, the live MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 (2002). Continues to tour intermittently; an album-length follow-up has been long-promised but never released.
