German-American Eurodance duo formed in Frankfurt in 1992. Lineup: American vocalist Melanie Thornton (1967-2001) and American rapper Lane McCray. Style typifies the early/mid-1990s Eurodance sound — uptempo synthesizer production, female-led pop vocals, and male rap verses.
Two studio albums between Sweet Dreams (1995, multi-platinum, featuring the title track and "Be My Lover") and S.O.S. (1998). Thornton left the duo in 2000 to pursue a solo career and died in the Crossair Flight 3597 crash in November 2001. McCray continues the project with various replacement vocalists.
