Jamaican reggae singer born January 1, 1952, in Gordon Town, Jamaica. Member of the I Threes (with Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths), Bob Marley and the Wailers' backing vocal trio from 1974 until Marley's death in 1981.
Released solo albums including Black Woman (1979, the first solo reggae album by a female artist to receive widespread international attention) and Working Wonders (1985), the latter earning a Grammy nomination — the first for a female reggae artist. Converted to Christianity in the 1990s and has primarily released gospel material since.
