American guitarist born July 15, 1956, in Westbury, New York. Among the most commercially successful instrumental rock guitarists, with over 10 million albums sold worldwide. Distinguished by his fluent legato technique and his role as guitar teacher to Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, Larry LaLonde, Alex Skolnick, and many others.
Released 19 studio albums starting with Not of This Earth (1986). Critical and commercial peak: Surfing with the Alien (1987), one of the few instrumental rock albums to achieve platinum certification. Founded the G3 instrumental rock touring concept (1996-present) and joined the supergroup Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (2008-2017).
