Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive

0 concerts · 1 record

Side project of English singer-songwriter Joe Jackson (b. 1954). The 1981 album Jumpin' Jive paid tribute to the jump blues and swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s, including covers of Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan, and Lester Young material.

Jackson assembled a horn-heavy band for the album, which marked a sharp stylistic detour from his new-wave-era work (Look Sharp!, 1979). The project briefly toured before Jackson returned to original material with Night and Day (1982).
