American rock band led by Joan Jett (vocals/guitar). Jett (born September 22, 1958, in Philadelphia) first gained prominence as guitarist/vocalist of the Runaways (1975-1979) before forming the Blackhearts in 1979 with manager Kenny Laguna producing.
Ten studio albums starting with Bad Reputation (1981). Commercial peak: I Love Rock 'n Roll (1981, featuring the title track, a #1 hit that remained for seven weeks). Subsequent peaks include Album (1983) and Up Your Alley (1988). Co-founded Blackheart Records in 1980, making it one of the first artist-owned independent labels. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
