American songwriter, composer, and producer born Jim Schultz on November 1, 1947, in Hyde Park, New York; died April 19, 2021. Best known for his collaborative work with Meat Loaf (Bat Out of Hell, 1977; Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, 1993).

Wrote and produced major hits for Bonnie Tyler ("Total Eclipse of the Heart," 1983), Air Supply ("Making Love Out of Nothing at All," 1983), and Celine Dion ("It's All Coming Back to Me Now," 1996). The 1981 solo album Bad for Good was originally intended as the Meat Loaf follow-up to Bat Out of Hell. The stage musical Bat Out of Hell: The Musical premiered in 2017. Died at age 73 of kidney failure.
