American mandolinist and singer-songwriter born November 22, 1974, in Wonder Lake, Illinois; died June 24, 2019. Co-founding member of the bluegrass-jam band Yonder Mountain String Band (1998-2014). Distinguished by his propulsive, jam-influenced mandolin playing.
After leaving Yonder Mountain in 2014, he led the Jeff Austin Band and released The Simple Truth (2015). Died at age 44 from complications related to alcoholism and addiction.
