American country-rock band formed in Nashville in 1981 (originally as Jason and the Nashville Scorchers). Long-running lineup centered on Jason Ringenberg (vocals) and Warner E. Hodges (guitar). Pioneers of the cowpunk genre, fusing hardcore punk energy with traditional country songwriting and instrumentation.
Released Fervor (1983, EP) and Lost & Found (1985), both highly influential on the alt-country movement that emerged a decade later. Subsequent albums include Still Standing (1986), A Blazing Grace (1995), and Halcyon Times (2010). The band has been intermittently active; Ringenberg continues to tour as a solo artist.
