American musician and producer born John Anthony Gillis on July 9, 1975, in Detroit. Co-founder of the White Stripes (1997-2011) with Meg White; also a member of the Raconteurs (since 2005) and the Dead Weather (since 2009). Solo career launched in 2012.

Six solo studio albums between Blunderbuss (2012) and No Name (2024). Critical peak: Blunderbuss and Lazaretto (2014). Founded Third Man Records in 2001 as both his own label and a Nashville-based brick-and-mortar storefront/pressing plant. Among the most commercially successful champions of vinyl culture in the 21st century.
