American jazz bassist (1930-2015). Born John Robert Six in Danville, Indiana. Best known as the bassist for the Dave Brubeck Quartet during the post-classic-quartet era (1968-1972), replacing the long-tenured Eugene Wright.
Also performed with Gerry Mulligan, Stan Getz, and many other major jazz figures. Released few albums as a leader; primarily known as a sideman across the post-1960s mainstream jazz scene.
