American studio group active 1972. Best known for the single "Popcorn," an electronic instrumental cover of the 1969 Gershon Kingsley composition. The single reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972, becoming one of the first commercially successful electronic instrumental hits.
The group was a one-off studio project led by keyboardist Stan Free; no significant follow-up recordings exist. "Popcorn" has been covered hundreds of times since and continues to appear in films, TV programs, and electronic-music samples.
