American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by Courtney Love (vocals/guitar) and Eric Erlandson (guitar). The classic lineup also included Kristen Pfaff (bass, died 1994), Patty Schemel (drums, 1992-1998), and Melissa Auf der Maur (bass, 1994-1999).

Four studio albums between Pretty on the Inside (1991) and Nobody's Daughter (2010). Commercial peak: Live Through This (1994, released just days after Kurt Cobain's death) and Celebrity Skin (1998). The band has not released a studio album under the Hole name since 2010; Love has periodically pursued solo work and threatened reunions.
