English rock band formed in Notting Hill, London in 1969. Long-running lineup centered on Dave Brock (vocals/guitar/keyboards) — the only continuous member since formation. Foundational to space rock; influential on subsequent psychedelic-rock, progressive-rock, and stoner-rock acts. Lemmy Kilmister played bass with the band from 1971 to 1975 before being fired and forming Motörhead.
Released over 30 studio albums starting with Hawkwind (1970). Commercial peak: In Search of Space (1971), Doremi Fasol Latido (1972), Space Ritual (1973, a double live album), and Quark, Strangeness and Charm (1977). The band has remained continuously active for over 55 years across dozens of lineup changes.
