English progressive rock supergroup formed in 1985 by guitarists Steve Howe (formerly of Yes and Asia) and Steve Hackett (formerly of Genesis). Lineup also included Max Bacon (vocals), Phil Spalding (bass), and Jonathan Mover (drums). The band's name is the abbreviation for "guitar."
Released one studio album: GTR (1986), which produced the top-20 single "When the Heart Rules the Mind." Howe departed in 1987 after creative differences with Hackett over the direction of the never-completed second album. Hackett briefly revived the project as GTR2 in 1989 with new musicians before disbanding it.
