American rapper born Melvin Glover on May 15, 1961, in the Bronx. Best known as a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (1976-1983). The 1982 single "The Message" (with Flash and the Furious Five) is widely considered one of the most important early hip-hop singles for its socially conscious lyrical content.
Released several solo and Furious Five-related releases starting with Greatest Messages (1984). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five in 2007 — the first hip-hop act to be inducted.
