American funk band formed in 1973 by bassist Larry Graham (formerly of Sly and the Family Stone). Distinguished by Graham's pioneering slap-bass technique, which fundamentally reshaped bass playing in funk and subsequent genres.
Released eight studio albums between Graham Central Station (1974) and My Radio Sure Sounds Good to Me (1978). Best-known songs include "Hair" and "The Jam" (both 1974). Graham revived the band intermittently from the 1990s onward, releasing GCS2000 (1999) and Raise Up (2012) — the latter featuring Prince, who was Graham's longtime collaborator and bandmate in the New Power Generation.
