American rock band formed in 1994 as a side project by Allman Brothers Band members Warren Haynes (vocals/guitar) and Allen Woody (bass, died 2000). Drummer Matt Abts has been with the band since formation; keyboardist Danny Louis joined in 2002. After Woody's death, Andy Hess and later Jorgen Carlsson (since 2008) have handled bass duties.
Released over a dozen studio albums starting with Gov't Mule (1995). Best-known releases include Dose (1998), Life Before Insanity (2000), and High & Mighty (2006). The band has continued as Haynes's primary touring vehicle alongside his Allman Brothers Band commitments.
