American rock band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1988. Long-running lineup: Scott McCloud (vocals/guitar), Eli Janney (keyboards), Johnny Temple (bass), and Alexis Fleisig (drums). Distinguished by their two-bassist configuration (Janney's keyboard parts often function as a second bassline).
Six studio albums starting with Nineties vs. Eighties (1990). Best-known releases include Cruise Yourself (1994), House of GVSB (1996), and Freakonica (1998, their major-label debut on Geffen). Released primarily on Touch and Go and DGC. The band has been on indefinite hiatus since 2002.
