American singer-songwriter born October 2, 1967, in New York City. Long-running musical and personal partnership with guitarist/producer David Rawlings (born 1969). The duo performs as a unit on most of Welch's recordings.
Released five studio albums between Revival (1996) and The Harrow & the Harvest (2011). Contributed to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) soundtrack, which won the 2001 Album of the Year Grammy. Rawlings has also released several albums credited to himself with Welch as a co-conspirator. The duo has been continuously active across the Americana and folk circuits.
